The PNG Balsa Company was established in 1997. 3A Composites Core Materials, part of Schweiter Technologies, acquired the PNG Balsa Company in July 2015, branding it "3A Composites PNG Balsa Ltd" (3A PNG). 3A PNG is a fully integrated grower, manufacturer, and worldwide exporter of high-quality balsa products such as Balsa Glued Blocks®, Balsa Solid Wood Boards®, and Balsa End Grain Panels®.
3A PNG is located in Papua New Guinea's East New Britain Province, a geographically remote and somewhat isolated area. 3A PNG is one of the largest employers in East New Britain, employing more than 600 people. In addition, the 3A PNG provides housing, free pre-school education for children living in the 3A PNG compounds, free medical, and a library for the community with over 3000 books to promote literacy.
3A PNG is the only balsa company in PNG that has earned certifications in ISO 9001 and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests.
