2010

June 21st, 2010: 3A Composites launches its new logo and visual identity concept.

2009

December 1st, Alcan Composites is acquired by Schweiter Technologies and becomes an independent division within the group. Alcan Composites is renamed 3A Composites.

ALUCOBOND® celebrates its 40th anniversary with the launch at the BAU 2009 in Munich and presents its innovations ALUCOBOND® media and photovoltaic.

Early 2009, Alcan Composite Structures is reintegrated into the Business Unit Alcan Composites.

2008

The 2nd AIREX® T90 production line goes into operation in a new dedicated building at Alcan Airex AG in Sins.

The Alcan Composites Conversion Center in Shanghai is inaugurated. From now on customers in South East Asia are directly supplied from their region with AIREX® and Baltek® core materials.

A central Saw Mill is built in Ecuador in order to improve logistics of our plantations.

Launch of a number of new DIBOND® surfaces such as DIBOND® wood and stucco.

2007

Launch of ALUCOBOND® spectra new wave, SINTRA® print optimized, FOREX® print and FOREX® smart in 5mm thickness.

Alcan Composites becomes first local manufacturer of aluminium composite panels in India by signing a joint venture agreement with Alukbond India Private Ltd. Alcan Composites India is born.

2006

Launch in North America of the intermediate board STRUCTA-BOARD® broadening the product range for visual communication applications.

Launch of FOAM-X® new in Europe.

Acquisition of Penske LLC in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee broadening the core materials product range with the heavy density fibre reinforced foam AIREX® PX.

Alcan Airex AG celebrates its 50th anniversary.

2005

Introduction of the new closed-cell, structural PET foam AIREX® T90 for sandwich constructions.

Introduction of new ALUCOBOND® spectra colours.

Introduction of the new FOREX® smart - an innovation for large outdoor advertising and POS/POP.

Introduction of the world's largest aluminium composite panel - DIBOND® 2050mm width.

2004

Integration of Altenrhein first into the Business Unit Alcan Ventures, then later on into today's Business Unit Alcan Engineered and Automotive Solutions.

2003

Baltek Corporation, U.S.A. is acquired by Alcan Composites thus becoming Alcan Baltek. The same year the Uniwood/Fome-Cor Division of Nevamar is integrated into the group. Alcan Composites thus enlarges its family of brand names with GATOR®, FOME-COR®, BALTEK® and KITCORE®.

Consolidation of composite structure activities by transferring the sandwich activities from Alcan Airex AG in Sins to Altenrhein.

2002

Opening of Alcan Composites Brazil with a manufacturing plant in Camaçari Bahia and sales offices in Sao Paulo. Alcan Composites is thus the first domestic manufacturer of Aluminium Composite Material (ALUCOBOND® and DIBOND®) in South America.

2000

With Alcan's acquisition of Alusuisse, the group Alusuisse Composites becomes Alcan Composites.

1999

Transfer of former Saurer-Kunsttofftechnik from Arbon to Altenrhein (Switzerland).

1997

Opening of Alusuisse Composites Shanghai manufacturing ALUCOBOND® and DIBOND® and serving the domestic Chinese and Far East markets.

1993

Airex AG acquires Saurer-Kunststofftechnik in Arbon (Switzerland) to extend the Sins sandwich component business to fibre-reinforced structures.

1992

DIBOND® the first Aluminium Composite Material for the Display market is launched in Singen.

Early 1990s

The group Alusuisse Composites, including the companies Airex, Kapa, the Alucobond activities at Alusuisse Singen and Alusuisse Composites USA is founded.

1989

Alusuisse acquires Kapa GmbH from Ahlstrom.

1987

The lightweight standard foamboard FOAM-X® is introduced in Europe and North America by Airex AG and Alusuisse Composites USA.

A newly created engineering department at Airex AG in Sins (Switzerland) develops and promotes large structural sandwich components with aluminium face sheets and AIREX® foam cores for bus and rail applications.

1986

Start-up of SINTRA® - the North American brand name for FOREX® - production at Alusuisse Composites USA and market launch in North America.

1980's

Airex AG pioneers the continuous extrusion of lightweight foamed polymer sheets with FOREX® rigid plastic sheet materials.

Together with KAPA®, they shape the market for display, stand building, signage and point of sale.

Mid to late 1970's

Set-up of a production site in Benton, Kentucky and first production of ALUCOBOND® in North America.

Start-up of AIREX® soft foam production for marine security devices and gymnastic mats.

1969

ALUCOBOND® - the first Aluminium Composite Material for architectural applications is launched in Singen.

KAPA® - the unique PUR cored lightweight foamboard is invented in Osnabrück and the Kapa GmbH is founded.

Early 1960's

Airex AG pioneers the market for structural core materials with its tough rigid material AIREX®.

1956

Airex AG is founded in Sins.
